Introducing the UR-100V « LightSpeed », a cosmic odyssey at the speed of light by Swiss watchmaker URWERK. This watch, unveiled on February 7, 2024, in Geneva, embodies the perfect union of Time, Space, and Light.
The UR-100V « LightSpeed » is an invitation to explore the universe, drawing inspiration from the speed of light, a universal constant symbolized by the letter « c ». This mystical figure, sometimes derived from Einstein’s theory of relativity, sometimes from futuristic visions of distant galaxies, is at the heart of this exceptional horological creation.
Martin Frei, URWERK’s artistic director and co-founder, describes this watch as a piece of the universe on your wrist. It houses a three-dimensional planetarium featuring eight celestial bodies from our solar system. Each planet is represented according to the time it would take for a solar ray to reach it. Thus, a solar ray reaches Mercury in 3.2min, Earth in 8.3min, Mars in 12.6min, Jupiter in 43.2min, Saturn in 79.3min, Uranus in 159.6min, and Neptune in 4.1hours.
The design of the UR-100V « LightSpeed » is both futuristic and timeless. It employs the principle of displaying hours and minutes without hands, thanks to a satellite that moves along a graduated arc. The first satellite carries the hours, the second the minutes.
On the technical side, the UR-100V « LightSpeed » is equipped with a Calibre UR 12.02 movement with an automatic winding system regulated by a profiled turbine, the Windfänger. It boasts a power reserve of 48 hours and a frequency of 28,800v / h – 4Hz. Its black carbon case (ThinPly 54 layers) and Grade 5 Titanium back, sandblasted, micro-beaded, and DLC-treated, offer water resistance tested at 5ATM (50m).
This exceptional timepiece is priced at CHF 65,000 (excl. VAT) or €66,440. The UR-100V « LightSpeed » is more than a watch; it’s an invitation to a space-time journey, an exploration of the universe on your wrist.
