LV Trainer Upcycling: the eco-responsible Louis Vuitton sneaker
The LV Trainer sneaker collection was unveiled at Virgil Abloh’s first Louis Vuitton runway show in 2019, and has found a whole new dimension for the Men’s Spring-Summer 2021 collection.
This version of the iconic LV Trainer, created exclusively for the Résidence Éphémère Homme in Paris, continues the Upcycling project initiated by Louis Vuitton during Artistic Director Virgil Abloh’s Spring-Summer 2021 fashion show. Made from a high-top sneaker, disassembled and then transformed, this new version in grained leather is enhanced by touches of bright color, contrasting with the color of the upper and bringing a whole new look to this LV Trainer.
Thanks to the inspiration provided by the first collections, these new pairs of sneakers, signed by French luxury brand Louis Vuitton, have been created in association with the brand’s shoe factory based in Fiesso d’Artico, Italy.
These sneakers were made from the stock of the very first LV Trainer models, two years ago. LV Trainer Upcycling is hand-assembled by the experts at the factory in Fiesso d’Artico, whose responsible upcycling approach optimizes the use of existing materials. Craftsmen at the Louis Vuitton shoe factory in Fiesso d’Artico, Italy, disassembled and reassembled the sneakers according to an eco-responsible philosophy set in motion by Virgil Abloh.

The different pairs that make up this collection have a special feature: the assembly instructions, whether for centering or cutting, and the overhangs of the sewing threads, have been preserved, leaving future owners of an LV Trainer Upcycling the choice of keeping them, cutting them or finishing their pair of sneakers themselves.
The LV Trainer Upcycling is the latest example of Louis Vuitton’s commitment to sustainable development. The House recently unveiled its sustainability roadmap for the coming years, entitled “Our Committed Journey”.
All Louis Vuitton products will comply with an eco-design approach by 2025.
